In the final session of the day, Taking It Forward: Actions, Partnerships And Fair Transition, Alexa Kleysteuber of the California EPA, Marcel Beukeboom, special envoy for climate change of the netherlands, and Debbie Raphael, director of the department of the environment, city of San Francisco reflected on highlights from the day.
Reflections included the importance of messaging, that California and the Netherlands and the other climate leaders will not back down in the face of challenges. Panelists also spoke about the importance of, and success of policies that catalyze people to reduce GHG emissions in a way that can spur business.
Another observation was that it matters where you use your zoom lens, and what area you choose to focus on. And finally, we must continue to set bold goals and find partners with the technology to achieve these.
As Kofi Annan says: “We have the technology and expertise to solve the world's problems. What we’re lacking is the political will.” As the Minister said today, it’s not that we must do this, it’s that we can do this.
